Frozen Chocolate Chip Yogurt Bites

Frozen chocolate chip yogurt bites are small no-bake portions made with Greek yogurt, cream cheese, vanilla, and mini dark chocolate chips. A silicone mini muffin pan provides a fixed 18-bite yield. The mixture is spooned rather than rolled, avoiding a misleading “ball” shape that a soft yogurt base cannot reliably hold before freezing.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups plain Greek yogurt
  • 4 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/3 cup mini dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped toasted oats

Equipment

  • 18-well silicone mini muffin pan, wells about 1 1/2 inches wide
  • Mixing bowl, electric hand mixer, spatula, tablespoon scoop, and covered freezer container

Instructions

  1. Place the silicone pan on a rigid sheet pan so it can be moved without bending.
  2. Beat the softened cream cheese on low for 1 minute. Add Greek yogurt, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Beat only until smooth.
  3. Fold in the mini chocolate chips and chopped toasted oats.
  4. Divide the mixture evenly among all 18 wells, using about 1 1/2 tablespoons per well. Smooth the tops.
  5. Freeze on a level shelf for at least 3 hours, until firm through the centers.
  6. Unmold the bites and transfer them to a covered freezer-safe container with parchment between layers.

Preparation Notes

Use thick Greek yogurt, not regular yogurt. A thin product contains more free water and forms icier bites. Cream cheese should be soft enough to mix, but do not leave dairy at room temperature beyond two hours.

Mini chips distribute more evenly than full-size chips in small wells. Count and fill all 18 wells before adding any remaining mixture so the yield stays consistent.

Substitutions and Allergens

Finely chopped dark chocolate can replace mini chips by weight. Honey can replace maple syrup in the same amount, with a different flavor. Regular cream cheese may replace reduced-fat. Granola is not a direct substitute for toasted oats because it may add sweeteners, oils, and allergens.

Storage and Serving

Keep frozen in a covered container. Move only the bites being served to the refrigerator for 10 minutes if a softer texture is preferred. Do not repeatedly thaw and refreeze the full batch. Discard portions left at room temperature for more than two hours.

These bites are firm when fully frozen. Allow appropriate softening before serving to young children or anyone with difficulty chewing.

Portioning and Texture

A small spring-loaded scoop can make filling the wells faster, but use the stated amount per well and redistribute any remaining mixture before freezing. Tap the supported silicone pan lightly on the counter to settle the mixture and remove large air pockets. Keep the pan level in the freezer so the bites have flat, stable bases.

Freezer temperatures and yogurt formulas affect firmness. These are intended to be served frozen after a short softening period, not held in the refrigerator as a pudding. Set out only the number needed and return the container to the freezer promptly. For a neat serving tray, place each bite in a mini paper liner after unmolding; the liners are for presentation and do not change the recipe yield.
